Susan received her B.A. in Economics from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and has worked in health and life insurance for over 40 years. In 1988, she founded her own agency—Susan Polk Insurance—in San Luis Obispo. She has also read the entire Affordable Care Act and is always in the forefront of legislation and programs to expand health care to the uninsured. Susan has received her Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, Registered Health Underwriter, and Chartered Health Care Consultant designations, as well as the Certified in Long Term Care (CLTC) designation. When not working, she and her husband Jim are usually playing with their grandchildren.

Sonja Polk

Sonja comes to Susan Polk Insurance after 15 years in the energy industry. She holds certifications in Compliance and Ethics, Computer Systems, and Office Management, and is also certified as an energy-industry instructor by a nationally-recognized institution in Atlanta, GA. Sonja is excited to be part of our team and is blessed to be able to serve our clients and meet their unique needs. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, photography, and baking.

Stacy L. Church

Stacy Church joined Susan Polk Insurance in May of 2018. She completed her Paralegal Certification (top in her class) at San Joaquin College of Law. Stacy spent 14 years at a large law firm in Fresno then moved into Labor Law and HR development in 2006. In late 2007, Stacy made the move to SLO County to be with her family, at which time she went to work for local attorneys and eventually took a job-development role with America’s Job Centers. Then, in 2011, through that opportunity working with local employers, Stacy met Susan Polk. She once told Susan, “When I grow up I want to work for you.” Stacy now adds “Agent” to her list of certifications. Her passion is helping people, and she fits right in with the Susan Polk Insurance mission: always positive and ready to help.

Brooke Spittler

Brooke comes to Susan Polk Insurance with over 15 years of experience in the health insurance industry. She has previously held the position of Office Manager at two insurance agencies, both of which specialized in group, individual and senior health insurance. Upon receiving her license in 2005, Brooke also took on the role of CSR (Client Services Representative). In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family by going to the lake and taking her daughter to gymnastics.

Kate Garland

Office Manager

Kate moved to the Central Coast from Virginia in the winter of 2019. Previously, she worked as a nationally ranked professional horse trainer, competing in the largest horse show competitions. She is also a certified Personal Trainer and previously managed a Gold’s Gym. She brings a vast knowledge of client management and office support to the Susan Polk team. In her free time, Kate enjoys riding horses, going to the gym, relaxing on the beach, and spending most of her time exploring the outdoors.

Peggy Schiller

Processing Assistant

Peggy grew up in Ecuador, which gave her a cross-cultural world view as well as the ability to speak fluent Spanish. She has worked in non-profit and social service organizations for twenty years and works part-time at Susan Polk Insurance. Peggy helps with processing applications, data entry, and following up with policy approvals, where her keen eye for detail is appreciated. You can find her on Wednesdays and Saturdays all year as well as many evenings during Open Enrollment. When she is not working, she enjoys playing piano and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

George Green

Office Mascot

George Green joined the Susan Polk Insurance office staff in October of 2017, having come on board as Puppy in Training. However, after showing immediate promise, unparalleled skill, and indomitable ambition, George was soon promoted to Office Mascot in January of 2018. His duties include greeting clients and creating a warm and positive office atmosphere.
