Cal Poly Students

A Brief Summary of the Accident and Health Program
The Student Accident and Health Insurance Program is offered as a supplement to Cal Poly Health Services. It is supplemental because it requires that you use the Cal Poly Health Center first, for treatment or for referral. Exceptions to this include emergencies, or when the Health Center is closed.

The plan has a $250 deductible and pays 80% of the eligible expense when you use Blue Cross providers and 50% of reasonable and customary when you see a provider outside the network. The plan has a $100,000 maximum benefit per year maximum. Premiums are based on the student's age and are paid in a lump sum, by the year or by the quarter. Other Options for Cal Poly Students
We have plans that compare favorably in price and will greatly improve the benefits. We are especially concerned about the $100,000 maximum. Most insurance plans now offer lifetime maximums of $5,000,000 to $6,000,000, a long list of network providers, and allow monthly premiums.

You may think health insurance is an expense you can't afford. We think you'll be surprised to learn about some of the reasonably-priced options available to you. For example, you can use the Cal Poly Health Services clinic for your doctors' visits and other outpatient care and supplement with a good, basic hospital plan. We have an excellent plan for as little as $56 per month for persons under age 30. The plan, which has a lifetime maximum benefit of $5 million, provides coverage for hospital expenses and inpatient and outpatient surgery after a $1000 deductible.

If you prefer to have access to a wider range of doctors in the San Luis Obispo area, you may want more comprehensive health care coverage. Comprehensive coverage, including medical and hospital services, prescription drugs, and preventive care is also surprisingly affordable! For example, a comprehensive health plan, which includes dental and vision, can cost as little as $77 per month for persons under 30.

Helping you select the best health plan for your circumstances is our first priority. At Susan Polk Insurance, we're your health insurance specialists! Call us at (805) 544-6454, or e-mail us and we'll be happy to discuss a plan to meet your objectives.

Touro Students

I first became interested in helping medical students at Touro University with their health insurance when my own son started there in the summer of 2005. When some incoming students requested information about health insurance, Brian said "Call my Mom," and the calls and e-mails started coming in.

Private health insurance is not always easy to get, even for those who think of themselves as very healthy. We can work with you to find the best plan and find the insurance company most likely to accept you as an insured.

In some cases, you might not be offered standard insurance. If you've recently had group health insurance as an employee or as a dependent, COBRA may be an option. There is also association group health insurance available through SOMA (Students of Osteopathic Medicine Association). Their website is www.somainsurance.com. We can help you decide what will be best in your situation.

Call me and I will take care of you like I would my own son. Toll-free (800) 242-6454 or e-mail me, susan@susanpolk.com.
