–Subtitle B–Improving Medicare for Patients and Providers – Part I – Ensuring Beneficiary Access to Physician Care and Other Services – Section 3101 – Increase in the Physician Payment Update–the update to the single conversion factor shall be .5%.
Section 3102. Extension of the Work Geographic Index Floor and Revisions to the Practice Expense Geographic Adjustment Under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule –
“For services furnished during 2010, the employee wage and rent portions of the practice expense geographic index described in subparagraph (A)(1) shall reflect 3/4 of the difference between the relative costs of employee wages and rents in each of the different fee schedule areas and the national average of such employee wages and rents.
NOTE: Because there has been such controversy over the rate of reimbursement in SLO County, I have included the above in its entirety. We are a rural county because our rents and wages are low–there is a subsequent paragraph that says the HHS Secretary can analyze current methods of establishing practice expense geographic adjustments. Her considerations are about office expenses, not housing expenses.
–Physician assistants can order extended care.
–Special enrollment period for Tricare extended for 12 months.
–Bone density scan coverage reduced to 70%
